Addio Nonno: Adieu Grandfather!

"Condoglianze Alice, stammi bene...

"A mia moglie, ci penso io..." era solito ripetere.

This week I had to say goodbye to my grandfather Giovanni, who died Wednesday, October 26th at 16.30.
It 's an experience that I have experienced better than expected, most of the time, when I lost someone dear to me, I approached everything in a way in my opinion wrong, suffering and not constructive.
Now, I seem to have taken it well or perhaps not even realizing I'm not.
It 'was moving to the speech of my father's altar, surprising that my grandmother suffering from Alzheimer's, doesn't understand what was going on, amazed that my uncle doesn't attend the wake for his father, bored by the same speeches and greetings from people who did not even know .

"Condolences Alice, take care ..." yes, the same words, all accompanied by a polite smile and a pat on the shoulder.

The image I have of my grandfather is a man well-fed horse that walks through the fields with no time or space.

I remember his plant of kiwi on the fence of the stable, his love for horses, his orchard, and his watchful eye of my grandmother.

"To my wife, I'll ..." used to say.

I will always remember, in one morning in October when I visited him the last words we exchanged:
"Grandfather, I came to visit you and see how you were!"
"Well, then I thank you that you came, I enjoy it "

I do not remember ever said to me in a way more sincere than this, smiling at me sitting in his favorite chair.

Grandfather, I greet you with this as I wished in my thoughts, come back soon on the Saddle!
